How ASIA NOBLE Describes Materials
Read the material, the component, and the finish
A bracelet can combine stone, pearl, shell, colored-glaze, metal, and cord. The useful description tells you what each part is, rather than letting one material name stand for the entire piece. This page explains how to read those terms at ASIA NOBLE.

Natural origin and treatment are separate facts
A natural gemstone may have received treatment. “Natural” alone does not establish that a stone is untreated, undyed, or unstabilized. Cutting and polishing also do not answer those questions.
- Heat treatment uses heat to change a gem's color or clarity.
- Dyeing introduces a coloring agent.
- Impregnation or stabilization can introduce substances such as polymers into a porous material to change its appearance or durability.
- A coating changes the surface; it is a different fact from the material underneath.
These are general explanations, not a treatment declaration for every ASIA NOBLE stone. A specific treatment claim belongs with the specific material or product. Color, a photograph, and a gemstone name are not enough to establish treatment history. GIA's guide to gem treatments explains these distinctions.
For example, the wider citrine market includes heat-treated material. That market fact does not identify the treatment history of an individual stone. Our citrine guide keeps those two questions separate.
Pearl, carved shell, and mother-of-pearl
Pearls form within mollusks. Natural pearls form without human intervention; cultured pearl growth involves human intervention. A pearl can be cultured without a bead nucleus, so “non-bead” or “nucleus-free” does not mean “non-cultured.” GIA explains natural and cultured pearl formation.
Carved shell beads are shaped from shell. Mother-of-pearl names nacreous shell material. Neither term should be substituted for pearl. An imitation pearl is made to resemble a pearl; its appearance does not establish the identity of its underlying material.

Silver numbers apply to the identified component
925 denotes 92.5% silver; 990 denotes 99.0%; 999 denotes 99.9%. We specify the number when identifying the relevant silver component. The remaining composition, surface finish, and construction are separate questions.
Blue Plume combines hand-hammered 990 silver with a 925 sterling silver feather fishhook clasp. Calling its silver work “990” does not make the clasp 990 as well. A silver-colored surface, a silver-tone accent, or a plated component should not be read as a declaration of solid silver.
Base metal, plating, and color
A plated component has a surface layer over a base material. Read both parts of the description: the metal underneath and the stated coating. A gold-colored or silver-colored finish alone does not identify either the base metal or its precious-metal content.
“Golden-toned rutile needles,” for example, describes the appearance of inclusions in golden rutilated quartz. Those needles are rutile, not gold wire.
Colored-glaze and other names in our descriptions
We use “colored-glaze” for the components identified that way in our material descriptions. A stated maker or source, such as Japanese Miyuki, applies to that component. It does not mean every bead or metal part has the same source. Inside Sunset Nomad shows how Miyuki colored-glaze, turquoise, silver, and brass have separate roles.
Black Onyx and Black Obsidian are also separate materials. We keep their names distinct, even when both look black in a photograph. Our three-material comparison explains the difference.
What can vary, and what still needs to match
Handmade beads and worked metal can vary in shape and size. Different wrist-size versions may use different bead counts, sizes, and proportions. That flexibility does not permit a different material, silver purity, coating, or fastening to be substituted without updating the description.
If a material detail is unclear, contact us with the product name and the particular component you want to understand. A material description is not an independent laboratory report; any report or testing claim needs its own evidence.
